GREGORIAN CHANT & THE MUSIC OF THE SPHERES
The Peregrine Medieval Vocal Ensemble

All world spiritual cultures recognize the power of sonic vibration as a fundamental building-block of reality & a vehicle for spiritual awakening. In medieval W Europe this universal principle was developed most fully by monastic contemplatives. This lecture & demonstration will investigate Gregorian chant forms & styles, as well as medieval musical metaphysics--the relationships between the notes of the scale, the movements of the planets, the orders of angels, & the transformation of consciousness. Peregrine will conclude with a contemplative concert of chant & harp music designed for meditation. The six-member Peregrine Medieval Vocal Ensemble is dedicated to offering vocal sound as an avenue to prayer and contemplation. A resident ensemble at St. Mark's Cathedral, Peregrine has participated in many multifaith chant events.

THEOSOPHICAL MOVEMENTS IN ENGLAND -17TH TO 19TH CENTURIES
Dr. Andrei Vashestov

In a history of English spirituality we have a unique and uninterrupted tradition of three Theosophical societies. First was the Philadelphian Society under John Pordage and Jane Lead in the second half of the 17th century following the ideas of Jacob Boehme. Next, the Swedenborgian Theosophical Society was active in the 1780's and 1790's. Finally in 1875 we see a remarkable continuity of Boehmean and Swedenborgian traditions in works by Anna Kingsford and Edward Maitland, active leaders in the current theosophical society. Andrei began this series on theosophical currents in October. He has a PhD from Moscow University, advanced work at Temple University. He is a published author and teacher, able to research original writings in 9 languages. .

THE DANCE OF SHIVA: LIFE, INNER WORK, AND ILLUSION
David Alderman

A detailed symbolic look at the famous statue of Shiva as Lord of the Dance of Life and Death is the point of departure for looking at the only "demon" that we actually have to face, time and again, in our lives. The dwarf of ignorance upon whom Shiva dances is what modern psychology sees as unconsciousness, the source of suffering in our lives. References from Rumi and the I Ching and an exercise in naming the "heedlessness" in our own lives will round out the program. David is a Northwest author and speaker.

He is also on the National Board of the Theosophical Society in America.

Celtic Faery Tradition With R J Stewart

The Celtic Faery tradition is one of the oldest primal spiritual traditions reaching back into the sacro-magical practices of the ancestral European Celts. This tradition encompasses a vast range of spiritual beings: from the Shining Ones in the heart of the land, to the mighty powers of the sea, to the family ancestral spirits of hearth and grave. A significant aspect of this tradition is its "environmental" core. The inner spiritual arts of Celtic tradition are valid today. R J Stewart is a leading author (38 books) and speaker on faery tradition and spiritual themes. He is also known as a musician and composer. MITHRAS: THE LAST MYSTERY-RELIGION OF THE WESTERN WORLD

Martin Leiderman

The worship of Mithras was the object of the Roman Mystery cult. Even though the ritual and liturgy were veiled in secrecy by the initiates, enough imagery survived from their temples to piece together certain aspects of the mystery. As we explore the archeological finds (slides), the powerful symbols and myths will unfold as a cosmic drama of the Divine-Wisdom. Martin is an international, bi-lingual speaker for the Theosophical Society & captured our appreciation last spring with his workshops on Quetzalcoatl & the Egyptian Book of the Dead.
